How does it work?
When you register for an AutoPASS ferry account and pay an advance, you will have an AutoPASS ferry account. Private customers can have two vehicles per ferry account. Corporate customers can have an unlimited amount of vehicles per ferry account.
The vehicles on the ferry account is attached to your AutoPASS tag and/or an AutoPASS ferry card.
If you already have an AutoPASS tag, that is the one you should use. If you do not have an AutoPASS-tag, you may order one from a tag provider (see question below: “Where can I get an AutoPASS tag?”).
If you order an AutoPASS ferry card, this will be sent to you by mail. When you register for an account with AutoPASS for ferry, you will be asked if you wish to order an AutoPASS ferry card. There is a fee of NOK 50 per card, which will be deducted from your account.
You pay for your ferry crossing with either your AutoPASS tag or your AutoPASS ferry card.
On ferry connections where AutoPASS tag payment is established, you use your AutoPASS tag to pay. You cannot pay with the AutoPASS ferry card in these connections, so if you do not have an AutoPASS tag you have to pay full price in these connections.
On ferry connections where AutoPASS tag payment is NOT established, you use your AutoPASS ferry card to pay. You cannot pay with your AutoPASS tag in these connections, so if you do not order the AutoPASS ferry card you have to pay full price in these connections.
Both payment methods are connected to your AutoPASS ferry account, and the cost of your travel will be deducted from the prepaid amount.
Payment using your AutoPASS tag is currently only available on a limited number of ferry operators, so if you do not have the new ferry card you will only receive the discount on the ferry operators offering payment with the AutoPASS tag.
If you have an AutoPASS ferry card in addition to this, you will receive the discount on all ferry operators included in the arrangement.
Please be advised that some ferry operators are excluded from the new arrangement. These are ferry crossings in Troms, Finnmark, some crossings in Trøndelag, and also Moss – Horten connection.

An invoice will be sent when you have 25% left of the prepaid amount on your account. You can pay the invoice whenever you like, but to make sure your agreement is valid and keep your discount, it must be paid before your balance reaches zero. Corporate customers must pay before it is under 10% left of the prepaid amount to maintain their discount.
Customers with eFaktura will receive an invoice with a due date, but this can be changed as you wish. It is only added because it is required to put a due date on an eFaktura in the bank.
The discount you receive with an AutoPASS ferry account requires prepayment. If the crossing can not be prepaid due to a lack of balance on your AutoPASS ferry account, the 50%/40% discount will not be applied.
You will receive a notification with payment details for a new prepayment as soon as the balance on your account is down to 25% of the total set prepaid amount.
If your AutoPASS ferry account is empty, the following will happen;
If you travel on a ferry connection which utilizes AutoPASS tag payment: the crossing will be charged to your agreement with the company which issued your tag (i.e. Fjellinjen or Bergen Toll Ring) with a 10% tag discount.
If you travel on a ferry connection which utilizes the AutoPASS ferry card: you will not be able to pay with your AutoPASS ferry card, and the crossing must be paid manually (credit card/cash) at full price.
Please note that for corporate customers it is required to have a minimum of 10% of the set prepaid amount on the account at all times to receive the discount.
The price of your ferry trip is calculated on your AutoPASS ferry account when the trip is registered in our system, not when you drive aboard the ferry. The ticket you are issued is only a proof of sales. The receipt for your trip can be collected on My Page. Here you will also find a trip overview of dates, times, prices and discounts.
The regulation that gave sports clubs and organisations the right to pay for several vehicles with the same value card on the same trip, was removed from the National Regulations for Ferry on 1 January 2019.
Upon renewal of ferry contracts AutoPASS tags will normally be introduced as payment. The rule is that an AutoPASS tag is always linked to a particular vehicle, and for sports clubs and organisations the payment (tag or card) must also be linked to a particular vehicle.
Sports teams and organizations must therefore adapt so that car owners can be refunded documented travel expenses for ferry travel.
The following persons pay children’s fare when traveling. No extra discounts are given.

Vehicles
If you have an electric vehicle, it should be registered as a normal vehicle. There is no need to do anything more.
Electric vehicles will, according to ferry price regulations, get a 50% discount on the regular price. For instance, if the regular price for a vehicle is NOK 100, the price for an electric vehicle will be NOK 50.
In addition to this, you will receive a 50% discount (40% for corporate customers) if you have a valid AutoPASS for ferry-agreement, or a 10% tag discount if you do not have an AutoPASS for ferry-agreement and are paying with a tag.
Motorcycles and mopeds can register for an AutoPASS for ferry agreement and get an AutoPASS ferry card for use in the ferry connections that use the AutoPASS ferry card as a means of payment. Since motorcycles and mopeds cannot be equipped with an AutoPASS tag, the ferry agreement can therefore not be used in a ferry connection with AutoPASS tag payment.
If you are traveling on a connection using AutoPASS tag payment you must pay full price with cash or bank card. However, in the AutoPASS regulations for ferry rates, which regulate the price of ferry services with AutoPASS tags as a discounting means of payment, the price is somewhat reduced compared to the National Regulations for Ferry in order to remedy the lack of opportunity for discounts.
Motorcycle and moped should be registered as vehicles between 0-8 meters.
